In October of 2002, we attempted our first Alien Voices Radio Show, The Invisible Man. On the second evening of that production, the cast was thrilled to receive a phone call from one of the authors and founders of Alien Voices, Mr. John de Lancie. This was certainly a treat for them and us but now we know that it pales in comparison with actually working with him in person! When Mr. de Lancie first emailed us that he would “love to come to Casper”, we began what turned into a year of correspondence and schedule wrangling. Finally, on November 15, 2003, John arrived at the Casper airport!
Words cannot express our gratitude to him for taking time out of his VERY busy schedule to give our students what may certainly turn out to be one of the most memorable experiences of their lives.
Mr. de Lancie, who has traversed from the American Shakespeare Festival to Days of our Lives, to STAR TREK — stopping here and there to direct the likes of Annette Benning and Ed Asner, narrate concerts for the LA Philharmonic, star in movies and television, and write radio scripts and plays— suddenly found himself directing a game of tag in the parking lot of a theatre in Casper, Wyoming with 17 young people. In addition to this brave and daring deed, he also shared his wealth of experience with them in two intensive days of rehearsal for their show “The Lost World” and “The Canterville Ghost.” We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work, dedication, and spirit and we are grateful for the chance to get to know John and watch a master at work. Thanks John!!!!
